That is an old chemists joke, although not exactly funny, more like a trick question. Argon and Lithium can never form a chemical bond. So I guess it perfectly describes 2 whomever, [you fill in the job title], that can never get along.
CHALLENGE: ACCEPTED!!! *Alondro blows up New Jersey trying to force the atoms together.... there is much rejoicing.*

my first attempt at what i thought was original chemistry humor. i'll try harder. you know, give it a little mohs. ??? better?

Well since this is bar and grill the topic should be food and drink, right ;)
I'm not very picky on topics here, but lets leave the politics and religion outside the door here too.
Besides that most anything goes in my opinion.

I asked the guy sitting next to me if he had any Sodium Hypobromite…
He said NaBrO

But we are getting off topic here.....

Now we're making bad chemistry jokes because all the good ones Argon
I have to admit I'm struggling a bit with the "slang" language of the newer generations.
It is like a whole new language.
In 50 years they will not be able to read English anymore.
If they can read at all.

Most languages spoken today are considered "alive" because it is actively spoken by a community of people and adapting to new situations, or evolving. In the '50's if you said to an older person something was cool they would have assumed you meant cold, not the current first interpretation as being intensely good. So that word evolved in my lifetime. It is happening all around us. Ask someone what woke means and you will get many different definitions so that word, woke, is still evolving from its original meaning of awareness of social injustices. So it happens all around us, surely there are words in Norway that evolve as well.

The option is to speak a dead language like Latin which stopped evolving because it is no longer spoken.

When they finally audit Fort Knox, and the assay comes in at 100% Fe plus pile of empty gold spray paint cans, how high will the price of Au spike?
hmm...i put the problem differently....

The US has presumably and not limited to 8000 metric tons (maybe more) of gold in its possession, which at current market price would be 640B USD worth (give or take).

US national debt is 36T USD (give or take)

So do you see any problem in the above equation? And so are all the countries in the world including China or Russia. SSDD.

The difference is that China buys all the gold it can get its hands on to stockpile....they can calculate too...

Soo...when everyone will realize that the face value of the 1 dollar bill is actually 0.027 dollar at current US debt....well calculation will be very easy....to determine the real value of things....

This is just for demonstration purposes only....any accurate calculation or mistakes in reality are just mere coincidence.

Take the above with a pinch of salt...

Pete.

Numbers are numbers :) Who will ever see those bars ? Are there 1 million of them or 1.1 million ? More/less, no ordinary Joe like us can ever find out for real :) With leading figures we do have all around the world, who will ever trust any statement these folks give ?

Price of goldshould reflect supply and demand, but it is formed heavily also on perceived feelings and notions and most importantly, assumptions. Or statements of investors, venture capitalists, mining companies, state banks etc. Everybody is going after his personal goals and interests. When country like China says "we bought 100 tons of gold this year", who will check ? What if they just bought 10 and told they bought 100 ? Or told they bought 100 and actually they bought 150 ?

In today post-factual era, first virally spread message spread the "truth" even if it is fake and untrue. People don´t fact check or reality-check anything anymore. And the 1 % that does cannot reverse the damage 99% will do.

Post factual era, I like that. I prefer facts and I will gladly openly discuss issues when both sides have factual awareness. This habit does not come from my political background but from my training as a scientist.

I like that paragraph, but not what it implies, mostly because the implication seem to get more and more true as the SoMe grows.

It seem like facts have no meaning anymore as it is the number of likes that cements the degree of trustworthyness.

Sad but "somewhat true"?

Whenever there is any "debate" about current politics or state of affairs, or just any of today´s "hot topics" for daily experts on war, who become the experts on medicine tomorrow... I always ask if we/they can agree on basic facts, on which whole discussion is built. Because if we want to discuss or fight over any topic, we must agree on basic facts.
If we cannot, we cannot discuss. We can only argue inconstructively.

And sadly, this is what is going on in majority of "opinion clashes" today. Sides cannot agree on facts upon which their planned discussion should stand up.
And from this point, they cannot reach any agreement or opinion change ever - because there is nothing to coincide and agree upon from beginning.

When the new administration here at GRF took over the use of likes for threads struck me for the first time, as the old forum did not have likes or dislikes to express ones feelings about a post. I generally use it as a method of letting someone I have seen their post and if I disagree I will post accordingly. But if the world ran like this forum we would have a mechanism to take down falsehoods and discuss options. In refining like anything else there are many roads that can lead you to the same result. Some may prefer stripping gold plated pins in a sulfuric cell and I prefer the cyanide approach. We both get to the same place in the end and as long as we can make clear the pro's and con's of each approach we can get along.

To put this in perspective of likes, the number of likes a member has matters not to me, it is the content of the posts. I believe the forum ownership somehow manipulates likes to get more posts and attract more advertisers and in that way more income. It is up to us, the folks who post and fact check posts to keep this place a factual and a trusted resource. In our own little way, we make this place trustworthy.

Agreed, but then I was not referring to this forum, but rather the world at large.

If the world at large had as much in common as all of our active members here have we would not be having the issues we are having because we are united by a common interest.

Or, as Orvi put it;
Because if we want to discuss or fight over any topic, we must agree on basic facts.
If we cannot, we cannot discuss. We can only argue inconstructively.
