Can anyone.recommend a refiner that has successfully refined these bands? The are all marked 1/20 gild filled top. Backs are all steel.20241203_124532.jpg20241203_124325.jpg Preferably from actual experience!
Thanks

I pay $0.15 / gram for these, as long as they are the GF cap type (not plated stainless).

I am yet to get so poor that I have process them in bulk, just enough to make sure that my price represents a fair deal.

The response to that price varies by how much free time a person has. Some hear that price and peel the caps....most peel the caps from a few then sell me the rest...some have tried it before and just sell them outright.

Hi. I figured I'd write in since I have a history with these. Everybody I've known to do these bands in bulk sends them off to a copper or e-scrap smelter. When melting, they add copper at about a 4 or 5 to 1 ratio and sparge the melt for a couple hours to get as much of the iron, etc out as possible to get a homogenous alloy and sample from there. You need a few hundred pounds of the bands though to make it worthwhile and hit minimum charges.

The analysis for gold filled bands with gold filled tops only will come out to right around a half a percent gold. With current gold prices, they'll sell on ebay in 2 seconds for 25-30 cents a gram.

@ohmike Thank you for posting this, in the past we have seen photo's of bandage wrapped fingers from the disassembly of these bands. Your solution is one which I have seen used but it is not for the small or hobby processor. Nonetheless it is a viable method.

I see you have been a member for some time and this is your first post. Glad to see you out of your shell, looking forward to more of this type of participation.

And better late than never, Welcome to the forum.
