Nothing to be sorry about.
But you probably have an excess of Nitric in your solution.
Add a piece of Copper and cement it out or evaporate to remove excess Copper as said earlier.

It seem positive, yes.
I prefer to use a paper strip or a cotton bud.
I find them easier to interpret.

Sorry mate, at the time my lab is down and has been since a storm a couple of years ago.
So I can't seem to fix anything in the near future.
