Hello all my name is James and I'm 36 and recently new to Gold refining and smelting although truthfully I am returning to the trade my grandparents taught me at the young age of between 6 and 8 years old then as I grew up I honestly completely forgot I knew anything about it but still had the urge and the knowledge that e-scrap contains gold and should not be thrown in the trash so I collected several times over the past few years I've tried my hand at remembering what they taught me and I don't know what I'm doing wrong well I think I might however I need to read and learn more refresh my memory I've had successful precipitations with recovery of gold powder most of the time however my aqua regia turns green and today I tried a new method of nitric acid that I read about I dissolved copper with hydrochloric and ammonium nitrate gassing it through iced sulfuric acid everything seemed to work great then it came time to precipitate and the sodium metabisulfide would not foam or react as usual until I had entirely too much in there then it finally gave what almost appeared to be a finished reaction of course when I went to filter all the mud that looked like was there went right through the filter and I recovered nothing although my refining with only my Smith little and 20 mule team Borax produced some decent results please help me guys tell me which books to read I thoroughly enjoy math science learning and refining thanks allIMG_20240604_015819_HDR.jpg

Welcome to the forum. You will get a list of material to study from Yggdrasil. Hoke is our bible.
Take your time to study and ask before you do anything with chemicals.

learning is done in testtubes. not beakers.

have fun. stay safe.

welcome again, merge this thread with your other one, this is considered double posting, which is against forum rules.
I apologize I do not know how to merge them and I posted, then it asked me to introduce myself and I didn't realize it was posting that

I have moved your threads so they are here.
Welcome to us.

If you are going to refine anything we want you to study this:

We ask our new members to do 3 things.
1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=19798
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/forums/safety.47/
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/threads/dealing-with-waste.10539/

Please don't forget punctuation. I have a couple of friends who could write a 1000 page novel, without a single period or comma. It leaves a lot to decipher in the context. That is one long sentence.
