I'm sort of new to the acid peroxide method for removing gold foils. I've been experimenting with very small amounts. Is it possible for some of the gold foils to dissolve in the first step when adding HCL plus H2O2?

This appears to have happened to me twice once trying to remove gold from fingers off a VGA card and once trying to remove a foil from a cell phone SIM Card. I saw some of the foils breaking from the plastic very early on but when I let it set for a couple of hours all the foils were gone.

If it is possible for them to dissolve in the solution, how do you het the gold from that point on?
