I am sure you are exaggerating. Welcome to the forum. If you have any questions or doubts before doing something just ask and you will receive decent advice.

Thanks I just don't understand the chemical abbreviations lol. I took chemistry in high school but that was some years back. I've been researching gold recovery for awhile and I alway end up on this forum and when reading the threads everyone is very helpful so I decided to go ahead and join.

First off, Welcome to GRF.

As for chemical abbreviations I knew none when I first joined the forum. Over time with reading and learning, some of them become ingrained enough to understand what is happening in a reaction. It does take time and as 4metals mentioned, ask before trying as this allows someone time to give more personal guidance before making any mistakes.

Thank you I will ask before I try anything. I know when dealing with chemicals and especially mixing them anything could happen. So I want to ensure that I'm not going

Cause any harm to myself and make harmful fumes that could harm anyone. I don't know why I wasn't able to put that with the first reply lol

Emily when we refine precious metals we do create toxic and dangerous fumes as the metals themselves are highly resistant to most chemicals , we can help you mitigate any dangers to yourself , neighbors or the environment and guide you in best practice .

I'm glad to see you are properly welcomed.

And since you seem concerned about safety and all.
Here are some links to study.

We ask our new members to do 3 things.
1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=19798
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/forums/safety.47/
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/threads/dealing-with-waste.10539/

I also took chemistry in high school, and majored in it in college and grad school. But none of that prepared me for refining. Sure, I knew what the formulas meant, but books about the relationships between scrap types and chemicals were few and far between. All of what I learned about refining was from doing it (granted I knew how not to kill myself) but no-one sat me down and explained it. In fact until I stumbled on to this forum when it was already 2 years old, there was no place where people spoke openly about refining and how to do it. And even today the GRF is unique for the way we are able to help members attain their goals. It will require reading and work on your part but all of the information is available here, but if you put in the work, and ask questions when in doubt, you will succeed because even though you said it in your first post, I don't believe that you are not that bright!

Well, Emily, since Yggdrasil gave you some homework, I will give you my “old guy” opinion on ALL study materials.

Read it.
Read it again. By now, you will begin to understand the new language you are choosing to adopt.
Read it a third time. Write any and all comments and questions with pen on paper. In my experience, the art of writing helps one to clarify comments and questions.

Bring all that here for us to critique, deride, laugh at, and ensure you are following a correct path toward your goals regarding precious metals.

Leave your ego at the door when you log on.

When I joined, I took the time to read all posts on all threads in all parts of the Forum. This is very time consuming, but well worth your time.

The above should be of good use, should you continue down this rabbit hole.

Time for more coffee.

I am getting the same error. I have not been able to find it either. So I posted to the moderators forum for someone more advanced than I am to look into.
