I just looked at their website and it is definitely not the same company I dealt with.NTR does not deal with escrap so it could not have been them.

I just had a xrf analysis done of a button i did for a friend - 15.4g. Not by NTR. I was (present)& swear to G**, 4 separate analyses came back 22, 21, 24,& 23k. I'll post a pic of it - the fern-like crystal pattern on top was clearly visible.
You remember the pawn shop story (last year) don't you? I took a button in and they ground off a pretty big piece of the button with a file, then told me it was 14k. Guess I should have washed it better huh

While dealing with karat gold I have experienced the generous use of the "tip" file.

I quit going to the buyer that switched from a small file to a large radius sanding stick, every unmarked item got a $15 acid test.

That is insane.I wish I had snapped a pic of it before I sold it,you would have gotten a kick out of it for sure.

Are you reading this whole thread before replying?? there's more than one discussion going on here.
As patnor said - if you have info, feel free to share. There are probably 100,000 McDonalds in the U.S., but I'm not necessarily going to eat at all of them.

I have sold to ntr for several years and have been for the most part satisfied . However , the last few months lots

of 14 k have come back at 12k .I also have noticed this on 10k coming back at 9k . It seems this is becoming the norm

with ntr . They advertise 98 % of spot , however what I am getting is 85% of what I am paying for my lots. I acid test

all my gold . Any advise will be appreciated.I already have a offer to pay me 90 % .

There is only 1 way to protect yourself. Melt the bar yourself and take a sample. Then when you ship it to anyone you will know what to expect. If you never go to the refiner and sample the melt you will have no recourse but you will know who you can trust.

The customer - refiner relationship is built on a model of representation. If you choose not to witness you are fair game. It is not always true, but that is something you have to determine by knowing before-hand what your material is or being there to sample it.

Can anyone suggest a independent gold assay company for my melt samples ? How much do they charge per sample ?

Thanks

Where are you located? Not that it really matters because UPS is everywhere but I always like to develop a relationship with the assay lab and close is better.

Generally you have to provide a pennyweight of sample which you do not get back and a gold is $25-35 and silver an additional $10. PGM's are more.

I have personal experience in the Chicago area, New York, and California sorry, nothing near Atlanta. Surely someone else on the forum has used assayers closer to Atlanta. All assayers receive samples from a far as a regular part of their business though.

I am new to the forum and refining. Thankful for the knowledge available here. I submitted my first lot of scrap gold 10 years ago. I wished I could have refined the gold my self. I was in no position to do so at that time. Submitted the lot for payment and had no idea what to expect in payment. Looking back today it wasn't very good. This year I have submitted silver and gold approximately 6 times to NTR Metals and have to say I believe I was underpaid on half the lots. My last was 50% of the calculated return. Although they do pay more than the mall. They are growing company and getting larger every day. I have no intention in assigning blame because unless you refined it yourself you cannot know what your quantities of precious metals are or it's exact value. I believe my mistake has been stated here in the forum many times. I took my eyes off the gold. People ask me often what gold is worth? I usually say it's worth what someone will pay you for it today. Please be aware that when submitting to refiners, know what you have. You should also know you have little recourse if your payout is less than expected.
