Quicklime- calcium oxide (CaO), burned lime or oxide lime.

A more powerful substitute for builders white lime for reducing the acidity of our waste waters etc.

Has anyone tried to use quicklime as a less expensive caustic than lye to remove oil or grease from fingers, pins etc..?

Chemically could calcium oxide possibly be used to replace lye for the reduction of silver using the lye/ karo syrup method?

I understand that some quicklime can even be pure enough to be considered a foodgrade product.
