Hi guys, after about 6 months of processing plated gold and integrated circuits using standard acid based techniques, I'm ready to move onto a Sulfuric Cell for plated pins.

Do we have a good how-to thread anywhere describing the whole setup including dangers and things to watch out for ?

I have watched a few youtube videos on the subject, but they seem to be very light on detail. I am a electronics engineer, so happy to hear about any deep details regarding Voltage, Current, Temperature etc.

Alternatively, are there any good websites describing quality setups ?

Thanks!

I class concentrated sulphuric as one of the most dangerous chemicals we use, it loves water and will absorb it from even the air around it so imagine what it will do to us, wear good chemical resistant gloves and safety glasses or goggles, do not breathe in the fumes as they will wreck your lungs, in other words work carefully and safely and cover your cell to keep air out when not in use or it will become less and less concentrated which will cause you even more problems. The cell works and does the job needed just be careful.

Find yourself a good pair of gloves. Be sure they are rated for sulfuric acid. Some gloves will have a better rating for certain acids than others. As Nick said, it will absorb moisture from the air, but it will also absorb it from your skin and flesh. Handling sulfuric is not the time to be relaxed about safety.

As for a sulfuric cell, they are a great tool when you have the right material. I find them quite amazing to watch the gold come off and go into solution.
