Hi all,

i tested today a small batch of resistors:

3,05 g of resistors

After boiling in HCL and disolving in AR (4ml HCL and few drops Nitric)

I got a green solution.

I think, the stanus test shows palladium?!

After added few drops DMG i got some green crystals.

What is this green salt?

I can't answer your question, but I did look up that the resistive traces are usually made of a nickel chromium alloy. I assume you have seen Patnor's post showing terminations as AgPd and Meng has certainly recovered lots of Ag from chip resistors. Keep posting your results, I'm interested.

Did you break them to powder? Pd (if it is there) is usually found sandwiched inside that plastic/ceramic body.

Just thinking loud - Is nitric fully consumed in your AR? In my test sample I dissolved metal with HCl/Cl and I let Chlorine escape.

Hi patnor1011,

i didn´t broke them, i hoped there are penetrated by hot AR.
Today there are no green crystals more, only some yellow precipitate.

I think, the nitric was not realy consumed in AR, the test this morning shows positive for Pd.

This are my first steps in testing small batches, (in a test tube) so i have to train the feeling with small quantities.

Today i will test a another type of resistors. (with more legs).

Hi all,

here are the results of the second test:

2.00 g resistors with legs
i cut them to better disolve of base metals
1h in hcl at 90° C
1h in AR at 90° C and denoxing
