I cannot seem to find a link to a design of a silver cell. I just need the basics on design and electrolyte use.

If you use the search box on the upper right hand corner and write in, "silver cell", there will be dozens of posts for you to read & choose someones design.

Take care & be safe; if you don't handle nitric acid properly... it will kill you!

I did the search before I posted. How far back are the designs? When I went through the first 20 or so it was just people talking about what they had done but nothing like a sticky that pops out on a design.

Appreciate the heads up on the nitric. Good information for anyone new to this hobby. Been at it for over 7 years now. But have just been firing my cements and selling the 97-98%'s.

Read a lot in the last few days. Couple things I would like to point out for some. Find a used vacuume pump at a pawn shop and invest in a filter flast and a buchner funnel. Better washes and much faster than decanting.

The next is using oxy-acetylene for melting. Keep the heat LOW. Oxy-acetylene is so hot it will vaporize silver. I do all my firing in a small propane furnace. They cost about $120 and $8 for a earthen crucible. You can get longer life from the crucible if you fire it the first time with only borax in it. It impregnates the earthen ware and any clorides and sulfides you don't get washed out will not eat it.

Otherwise, keep the information coming. The more you learn the more you find out you don't know.

Hi Drzeto!

Give it a shot here:

I had experienced members helped me out & there was a lot of information shared.

Sweet, Exacly what I was looking for. Nice design. So when you make the electrolyte do you just disolve the silver in nitric and use it or do you disolve, evaporate off excess liquid, cool and collect the pure white silver nitrate crystals?

The electrolyte should be about 60 g/l silver. Just dissolve the silver in nitric acid and use it. No need to crystallize out the silver nitrate.

Also, the cell will work better if you have some copper in solution, it helps the conductivity. I like between 15 and 30 g/l.
