Tried to melt down some silver powder I separated from ore, came out looking like an excelsior cracker! Anyone else had this issue?

Are you sure there is silver in your ore? In what form? If it's a sulfide, it needs a pre-roast with plenty of access to air to burn off the sulfur, OR a smelt with a high oxidizer percentage and metallic iron (thin rods/nails or pieces of sheet) to bind the sulfur.

What else is in the ore? Other metals and metalloids could interfere with the processing.

Hello and welcome. To answer or help you along, we need to know what you started with, as far as the mineral of Silver mineral(s), how you concentrated it, what fluxes you added during the smelting process, type of furnace, etc. for starters.

No slag, just powder itself separated from ore, no flux. Should've added collector metal but it's silver, thought it would've melted down by itself.
This did not explain anything.
Obviously it was not pure since it did not produce metal.

So please explain in detail.
What was the ore and how did you know it has Silver?
How did you extract the powder from this ore?

Then we may get enough information to start helping you.
