Dear Learned Experts

Newbie here with regards to gold and english. I have been reading post since past few days and I need to learn how to test quality of gold dust / flakes which can be obtained by panning river sand.

I am told by my seniors who has been traditionally treating this dust / flakes to put this sand in Nitric acid in steel utensil and put it on to gas stow till you get white smoke (of course under safe and open environment). Filter and retrive the remaining dust in solution, wash dust again and again with water, do litmus test to ensure it is not acidic, dry it and put it up with crucible on furnace or torch it. Once it is melted, you shall get gold and you can check purity using water density method or XRF.

Guidance in this regards shall be highly useful.

Regards
Jems
