I think he means a fused silica dish. Like an evaporation dish.

Fused Silica is basically a less expensive version of fused quartz, almost the same but not as resistant to thermo shock.

I use fused quartz as evaporation dishes, Au and Pt/Pd chloride do not stick to it, makes it nice...

Here is the source of cheapest ones. However you do need to order like 100 at a time and may be liable to some customs charges. It depend what is the mood of scanner operative as I got some packages from China VAT free and got charged on some other.
