I've been fascinated by gold since early youth. Not for its value, oddly enough - There's just something "magical" about the fact that every non-virgin bit of gold we come across is partially from the Aztecs, from the Sumerians, even some proto-civilization collecting the shiny yellow rocks before the modern era.

What are you looking for in our community?
Working in IT, I always knew electronics had gold all over the place, but believed it was so rarefied as to make it pretty-but-worthless. Now that I've learned better, I want to see what I can do with a garage full of assorted PCBs (1980s to semi-modern). And most importantly, I wanted to learn how to do it safely... No blowing up my garage, no blinding/disfiguring myself, no metals poisoning. Mostly I just want to do it to learn (and boy howdy but it'd sure make the Missus happy to clear out the garage :wink: ) - I don't really care if I ever get enough metals recovered to even break even vs the time and cost of doing it.

Interests : I used to be big into online gaming but since having children I find that they just suck too much time away. Now I'm more interested in glass art and Marbles.

How long have you been refining gold or have interest in precious metals? : I always had an interest in PM's. When I was a kid I used to take apart everything in sight and save ANYTHING that appeared valuable. Wish I saved all that stuff. I have yet to refine anything though. So far Im hoarding.

I have no experience with refining or recovery but I am interested in getting started. My wife and I have recently started buying things for her art business at flee markets etc. which includes some items that are sterling or at least silver plated and it got me thinking how to get some pure silver on the cheaps instead of buying bullion from a trader. That is how I have happened upon this forum. I am also interested in salvaging/refining my own bullion for Z day as well as a diversified portfolio. Thanks!

How long have you been refining gold or have interest in precious metals? : When I was 8y/o I picked up a piece of gravel and showed it to my dad. It was quartz and had flecks of yellow metal in it. That started my love for rock collecting. I don't have a large collection, just some special items I have found along the way. Recently I realized that computer junk was loaded with precious metals and became interested in learning how to do the chemistry to extract them. Man, is there a lot to learn !!! C.M. Hoke knew her stuff and now I want to know it too.

What are you looking for in our community? : I'm looking to learn all I can about his exciting hobby and perhaps maybe make a little money with it. Besides that, I have considerable knowledge in computer controlled process control systems and want to share my experience with whomever wants it.

I also wanted to add a big Hi to everyone, I have started reading some of the posts and the amount of info is incredible. I have been collecting chips, cards, etc for a while now trimming and separating as I go along. I have been trying to learn as much as possible before starting with the chemicals but I hope to start in the next few weeks. Looking forward to future conversations.

Hey all,

My name is Will. I live in Arizona. I own Valleywide Recyclers, I specialize in A/C recycling. I started to get interested in refining when I discovered that I could quite easily collect silver from contactor and relay switches. Especially since I have a pretty much unlimited supply coming in. So far I have around 10lbs of silver that should be close to 90%. I have been researching how to go about refining this for a couple years now, and have gotten to the point where I felt comfortable. I have processed just over a pound using HNO3, and want to thank everyone here on the forum. Reading everything that I could about the subject from people who have actually experienced doing it successfully has been the biggest help. I want to next setup a silver cell. I am waiting for Steve's DVD on silver processing right now, should have it by Monday.

By accepting things that can be used to teach the disabled IE: old furniture fixed and refinished just about anything can be recycled in some way. old bottles turned into lamps, and now scraping for PM's.
