Thanks, AFLAC

I'm reading all I can here and trying not to get too confused. It's a lot to assimilate. Takes me back to my high school days when I was a lab tech in the chemistry lab mixing different dilutions of acids. Did I really do all that without rubber gloves?

I wish I had a setup at home like they had at the chem lab. Fume hoods; nifty glass stoppered bottles and all the glassware you needed; and black, seemingly impervious to acid, countertops.

I have no doubt that I'll be posting many questions in the (hopefully) appropriate forums soon.

Thanks for making me feel welcome!

HI to all
my name is richard and i live in az
i am a maintence superviser of a apartment complex
i am 25, have a wonderful wife ,and two great kids
and i have a touch of gold fever. It all happened when i was fixing my aunts tile when we were cleaning out an old desk of my grandpas and there was some 8k gold in it. long story short that was when gold was $634. since then i have tried getting gold out of computers but have had little success. i have just come a cross 65 old mac computers and am interested in refining them with out harm. i have done some research on reverse electro platting and i believe this to be the way to go. let me mention i have a family and dont want to get real crazy with the acids if you know what i mean. as for the reverse electro platting thing i am not sure what chemicl to use. but with your advice and wisdom i hope to i hope to do this

:D The name is Jim, I'm an EE and Geologist with a Chemistry background. I have been doing precious metals refining for 18 years and am here to learn and help. I have worked with placer gold and electronics scrap with usually good results.

My career has been in and around the Space Program and Defense Contracting and have done high tech electroplating and etching.

Hello

My name is Randy Hecker.
I live in Gunnison, Colorado.
I am 60 years old, white male American (a dying breed) and a Patriot to the core.
My area of expertise is the extraction and recovery of precious metal from complex mineral deposits. I specially like complex, chloride mineralization, and I am nearly ready to bring one property on line in the near future.
My hobbies are mining, minerals, and precious metals, which is also my profession.
I am a specialist in emergency preparedness, a former EMT-Paramedic, and a member of the National Disaster Medical Service. Currently I am producing a large amount of gold which I prepare as a powder. I am looking for someone who can refine it and return 99.9 bars. Let me know if interested.

On the other forums for which I am a member I always sign off as Randy in Gunnison and will do so here.

Other : I'm interested in the inverse of refining... that is... the art of alloying metals to produce the properties desired. I'm particularly interested in the development of alloys for coining, traditional Japanese alloys, and all the various tooling and fixtures that accompany the coining process.

Welcome Tom! I've been an admirer of your work from when I first saw it on Theo Gray's web pages. I share some of your interests--I do metal casting (bronze, aluminum, cast iron, silver, gold) and have an active interest in alloying. I also do a good bit of refining, mainly with the platinum group metal, Pt, Pd, Ir, Ru, Re, Os, Ir, and Rh.

Take your shoes off and stay awhile, I'm sure you'll like it here. We don't just discuss refining here, there are many people from diverse fields and interests!

Lou

From my limited experience, alloys require a good high temp furnace.
Do you have one?
Just curious.
