Wow dinner and desert on the same plate. I only got away with that when I was single!

I have to laugh --- about 15 -16 years ago my brother & I were working at a cheese factory in Vermont to up grade their automation systems that ran their production lines so we ate out at restaurants for most all our meals

When he would order his meal (lunch or dinner) he would order it with pie & then tell the server to bring him the pie "while waiting" for the actual meal to come - so he always had is desert "before the meal - & then he would have another piece of pie after the meal

It was always funny watching the servers reaction when they did a double take stopping to ask - "you want your pie now/first"

turbodog:
1. wrap a hotdog in paper towel, microwave 30s. Meanwhile, get a bun.
2. take hotdog out of paper towel and put in bun; put paper towel outside bun for to steam bread with the leaky hotdog juices
3. nuke for 10 more seconds
4. eat over trashcan = no dirty dish!

Blue box mac and cheese in microwave, no drain:
1. 1.75c water and noodles in a bowl. Nuke for 11 minutes, stir after a couple minutes to break up chunks a bit, and again a few minutes before done.
2. If too much water left, you might have to drain and adjust for next time.
3. add stuff for to make the sauce as instructed on the box (usually .25c milk, 4tbsp butter, and the yellow powder)

The closest I can come to @BShan cooking is what I typically eat in the woods or out ice fishing. That is whatever can be easily prepared by adding boiling water. My source of boiling water while out on the ice is a kelly kettle, just grab a pocket full of dry twigs and add water and even the winds off the lake won't blow it out. So hot water plus either dehydrated backpacking meals or Ramen noodles and it's a meal. And of course hot tea!

They are great for boiling water in the wind and cold. Never seem to have issue finding dry kindling in the winter or the summer. This is the website for a US supplier, I got mine many years back while in Ireland. They also have small wood fired stoves to work with the kettle but I just use it to get hot drinks and dehydrated meals into my belly. I have used it backpacking to boil water when the waterways have beaver populations and I want to avoid guiardia.

I echo the sentiment of a few others: I did not know the name of the Kelly kettle! Ramen's very hip these days, but kind of pricy around here. Grab an egg out your pocket, chuck in some random green onions from the ground, suddenly you have a premium bowl of ramen with fixin's, in the middle of the woods!

I built a sous-vide setup with an old crockpot and a temp controller, and made a 48-hour chuck roast, sliced and seared afterwards on cast iron. Felt like ribeye in the mouth, but not in the wallet, though with a bit stronger beefiness. Also makes me more confident to buy a fancy real steak for special occasion, and not worry about ruining it by overcooking it.

I made Italian sausages with peppers and onions on Hoagie rolls for dinner last night, and will finish the leftovers tonight. There’s 5 sausages in a package but the rolls come either 6 or 8 in a bag depending which brand? The struggle is real!

Interesting, I never heard about this danger before. Of course you wouldn’t want to taste it without being sure already. He never said though what the other plant smells like? Is it a different enough odor from onion to be certain?

The reason I mentioned it is because the two plants require the same growing conditions and can grow right next to each other. It would be easy to harvest a bunch of the real onions but accidently grab a couple of the poisonous one's.

I can't remember what Death Camas smells like.

The only mention was it do not smell like onion.

Just curious how Canadien bacon got it's name. If you go to Canada and order it, they look at you like you are from another planet.

The term Canadian Bacon is an American term, as I understand it. It is normally known as Back Bacon. None of this may be true, but it is what I have read in various places online.

50 years ago when I visited Canada out of Vancouver I used to get Canadian bacon pineapple pizza's quite often.
It definitely has its own flavor and I can't find it here in southwest Idaho.
