Hello wonderfull forum members

Been collecting for 14 days or so now, and reading like most the post here.

Ive desidet to start of by only collecing cpu´s and cut of gold platet fingers from pc boards, sound bourds etc. For trying thing out, and not just barried my self in old pc scrab.

Ive now been buying some cems to day and cant wait to start!
But iam not quiet sure how now...

For eksempel this could be what ive need to proces.. Now i should say my goal is to get what ever gold it contains out= I would like to desolve anything else than gold..

Its ceramik cpu and glassfiber cpu, and then thise gold "fingers" on cirquetboards

iam thinking ceramik cpu´s in 62% Nitric acid for some days-collect gold for later refining.
But will thise small gold fibers inside them come out, or should i chrus these??

Take the time to understand the saftey issuses. Yes you will need to crush the cpus
Good luck, Oh yes and do take the guided tour lasersteve offers.

Thanks..

So iam thinken

1. Crush cpu´s and put in beaker
2. Add AR to desolve all metals incl gold. filter away ceramik
3. drop gold out with SMB
Thats rughfly said!

But can i do the same for the fingers?

You would be better served by crushing your cpu's and dissolving the base metals away first using nitric acid. once dissolved decant off the nitric plus base metals and then move onto dissolving the gold with AR, you will get a much cleaner gold precipitate doing it this way.
The fingers should be soaked in AP to loosen the gold from the boards, then you can dissolve the resulting foils in HCl and bleach, precipitate with SMB.
If you haven't already done so, download a copy of Hokes book and have a look at Steve's videos on his website, especially the AP video which will explain in detail how to process your fingers.

My advise would be to keep building up your stash of stuff to process, while you keep studying the forum until you know what your options are for each type of scrap.I don't think you have enough to process yet, unless it is just for help in understanding how to it.
Have you got all the safety information understood yet?Do you have a safe place to process?Do you have stannous to know whats going on in your processing and where your gold is?

The longer you take in learning to process the right way,is the longer you have to build up a decent stash of material to work with. And less of a chance for you to mess up or have an accident.

Copperas (ferrous sulfate) is an excellent precipitant (for gold). Read Hoke for instructions on its application.

I WOULD HOLD OFF UNTIL YOU HAVE AT LEAST A COFFEE CAN FULL OF PROCESSORS AND OR CLIPPED FINGERS .CHECK OU http://WWW.SCRAPMETAL-INC.COM THEY HAVE A SECTION ON REFINING COMPUTER PARTS AS WELL AS CATALYTIC CONVERTERS FOR PLATINUM RECOVERY

GRRRRRrrrrrrr...

Ha ha well even tho i ran into lots of problems, i learnet alot, an i would say that now i feel a litle more confedence in refining.
Yes ofcourse it is mutch better to wayt and collect scrap, then do a refine on a bigger pile of scrap..

But even tho i only have played around with 14 low yeld cpu´s and 120g. of verius type fingers, ive endet up with this+ the learning experience
