Welcome to us.What if we use only nitric 70% and not mix with water?
Thank for reply..Welcome to us.
Concentrated Nitric can't dissolve as much as dilute Nitric, it can't "carry" so much.
Her is for some studies:
We ask our new members to do 3 things.
1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=19798
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/forums/safety.47/
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/threads/dealing-with-waste.10539/

Do you have a fume hood?T
Thank for reply..
I am jeweller. I used only nitric 70% and it produced dark brown fumes, but when i used the 50-50 nitric acid and water it seems slow reaction time and the fumes are light brown in colour. My alloy is maximum times of copper silver and gold.
You should get yourself a fume hood.I do it on open terrace. I am dissolving gold jewellery which is most of 20K weighing 200gm. I have inquarted it to 6k around 25% gold. I have used the aqua regia method to directly on 20k gold last time but made loss of around 2% gold. It think it is due to loss of gold dissolved aqua regia solution while transfering and filtering. So i am trying using the inquartating and parting method which is traditional used by jewellers around me for many years.
I have searched on internet and found the 1.17ml of nitric dissolves 1gm of silver and 3.5ml of nitric dissolves 1gm of copper.
Also most of refiniers i know use only nitric acid.
I am going to buy automatic refining machine in upcoming days. I have refined using this method today. I will check its purity in the morning. The required purity is 99.5%.You should get yourself a fume hood.
And yes around on per gram of Silver and around 4 fro Copper.
Parting and Nitric will do for most unless higher purity is needed.
A refining machine will be a colossal waste of money for the feed you describe. Just a good hood (and possibly a fume scrubber to be nice to your neighbors) will be all you need.I am going to buy automatic refining machine in upcoming days. The machine may help reduce loss of gold. As i always lose 1-2 % of gold. Any suggestions are welcome.A refining machine will be a colossal waste of money for the feed you describe. Just a good hood (and possibly a fume scrubber to be nice to your neighbors) will be all you need.
Get your processes correct and the losses will be minimized. The machine may help reduce loss of gold. As i always lose 1-2 % of gold. Any suggestions are welcome.
