Read an interesting article, the reptile was encased in a plaster mold then burned out, ashes removed the cavity coated with plumbago then electroplated to form a replica of the subject.

Just thought it was bit more interesting than plating a pile of dog poop.

Gill, as an old plater, that is interesting to me. Do you have a link for the article? I'm curious as to how they rigged up the solution and the anode to actually plate (electroform, in this case) the inside of the mold. Sounds pretty tricky. Plumbago is graphite. The detail you could get on the lizard would be tremendous.

I think I mentioned, way back, that a plater boss of mine had a pile of dog poop in his office that he had beautifully gold plated. Why? Because he could.

what was the order (odor ?) & thickness of metals ? i would think you would need more than 50 microinches of gold to structurally contain a squish object like that. unless it was from a baby chihuahua.

did he use an electro-less process to create a conductive surface to electro-plate the gold on to ?
