Sulfuric cell baskets.

Hello all,I am getting ready to do another sulfuric cell to strip some backplane bars. My question is as far as a basket goes could I just construct a box from copper sheet and submerge it in the cell and most of the sludge would be contained in the box?? The anode and cathode would both be submerged so I don’t see why this wouldn’t work… thoughts please!!! I’ve done many cells with pins and the pins always get caught up in the copper mesh. So just thinking outside of the box!

The reason one use mesh is to let the current and Gold go through.

Get a fine copper screen maybe.
Can also been done manually with copper alligator clip, or multiple clips.

So if I drill holes in the side of the copper box than the sludge, should still stay in the box, correct? Just thinking of ways to curb collecting the AU.

It maybe worth a test to see if it works.
However you may just create that dreaded electric field barrier to the material.
EDIT: The sludge is very micro sized and may bubble up and out while deplating.

If you hang the anode above the box it will work, the current will not reach the goldplated parts if thee anode is on a side.

Watch how they set up the anode and cathode. It's not my video, but it works well.

I use a simple plastic basket. A plastic cup or small bucket with holes drilled in it.
I make the contact by sticking 8mm copper tubing in.
I flatten the end that goes in the acid and put the stripped wire end in the other end. Three wires in another copper tube to connect it to the power supply wire to make a branch of copper pins.
Just strip the end of the wire, fold the end and hit it with a hammer to fix them in the tube.
Reposition them when the current stops until it's all stripped.
