Hello guys, galls and everyone in between. I'm Tony (25/M), and I'm in the great state of Colorado. I work for the military and I just moved in. I've had many hobbies, but I'm mostly a gun nut and have cast lead bullets for an old black powder revolver o' mine. I'm also no stranger to computers and tinkering with electronics. I have not refined any gold, but I have been interested in the process for a long time. After a show I caught on people recovering AU, AG, etc. from E-scrap (long time ago), I wanted to find out how, but I never did pursue it. Of course, you know what they say, you find what you're looking for when you're not looking for it (in this case it was a random You Tube vid that had a link to here!) To tell the truth, I just wanted to see if I could do this. I have zero chemistry back ground, but I do enjoy playing with dangerous things (SAFELY!), and this seems like a challenge. Plus I get shiny stuff at then end, and that makes me all toasty inside...

Welcome, AGain!

You are @ the right place. All, & I mean all you need to know about refining PM's is here in this forum. We have the best teachers you could ask for, & I'm not kiddin. I' have learned to recover & refine Au & Ag & I don't have any chemistry back ground @ all. But w'the guidance of the experts here I've done it. I'm still learn'n & enjoy'n every minute of it. You need to start read'n Hoke's & the posts & become acquainted w'safety, methods & so on.

Welcome & enjoy!

To be honest, it's almost a bit over whelming the amount of information that's here. I'm not all to familiar with parsing through info posted on forums (seeing as most of the time I try to avoid them,) but so far from what I've read there's a good amount of people that know their trade here. Now I may be jumpin' ahead of myself, but has the thought of setting up a wiki style page to compliment the forum been discussed? Anyways, I'm glad to be here and from the looks of things, I need to do A LOT of reading before I can press forward.

-AU

Ask, and you shall receive. Good looking out, PD. It's nice to have a solid starting point. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some homework to do. 8)

Hi folks,

just thought I'd say hi. I've been browsing the site for a few days now. 38 m from Oklahoma. I've been a silver and gold nut for about 4 years. Mostly buying bullion but I've done a fair amount of coin roll hunting in my day. The member ME CO taught me about that on the GIM forums and I ran with it, its a hell of a lot of fun but dayum those boxes get heavy. After a ton of skunk boxes I did let the hobby go about a year ago but I am getting ready to start it again and maybe start hitting out of town banks for coins. Also gearing up to start buying scrap jewelry, there seems to be some solid competition in my city but I feel the need to go for it. This site has also created a monster and now I plan to start recycling computers in all my free time. I am also overwhelmed by the amount of knowledge on this site. I have so much to learn. Most likely I'll just start filling up my garage with computers until I am ready. Looking forward to learning and eventually recovering gold.

Hello people. First post here and I' have to say I'm thrilled with the info.

My name is Asterios and I'm 21 male, college student, from Hellas/Greece (hence the username). My hobbies are static models, RC models and generally making stuff. I also melt metal and currently am making a new furnace to reach copper temperatures -gold is near :p. Never refined gold or other precious metals. I watched a video on YouTube with a link for this Forum. :)

Anybody from the same country?

Yia sou, Asterious.

My father hailed from Megara, as did my grandfather on my mother's side. Don't know if there are any other Greeks on the board. If so, perhaps they'll speak up.

Figured I'd say hello and introduce myself. Figured the generic info could go up above. Gotta say, of all the sites I've been to in the last 24 hours, this is the most encompassing and informative. I am very new to the gold refining concept, but as I've got a lot of time on my hands, and a few extra bucks here and there couldn't hurt, I've decided to give it a go. I've been fascinated by geology and metallurgy most of my life. In fact, I wanted to be a geophysicist as a child. My how things have changed! But it's still a passion I possess to this day. I am glad to meet you all, and I hope that some day I can help impart wisdom as well as you all seem to try to.

Hi,

I'm new here. I need to know how extract gold from motherboard, computer cards etc. I recycle computer just for fun and also for the parts to mount other computer.
But.. what I receive from people have 98% that is not good (obsolete computer) and is only good for the recycle.
By month.. I receive around 50-60 pound of motherboard and computer cards. In 50 lbs of motherboard and cards.. how many grams of gold are inside :?:
Thanks! (sorry for my language.. english is not my primary language.. I'M french from Quebec, Canada).

I like this website!!

Welcome to the forum, Francois. You've come to the right place, especially considering our leader (site owner) is also French Canadian.

Your goals can be easily accomplished, but the very best thing you can do to learn proper procedures is to read the forum. In particular, follow the links on posts made by lazersteve. He has spent considerable time in an effort to get new readers acquainted with the forum, and refining.

Read Hoke's book. It is the best possible source for you to gain basic knowledge that will be required to refine successfully.

I have been playing around with the idea of gold reclamation for a couple of years now. Since the employment market has taken such a dump here in California thought, I should consider alternative means for survival. Am considering opening up an electronics recycling business in my area.

Welcome Nick,

I like the fact that you came here bearing gifts for others just starting out like you are, that is a good sign as to your character in wishing to help others. We have many come here that start out demanding things be done on their terms. You will learn much and fit in well if you stick with passing what you learn on to others as you progress. I wish we saw more with your starting attitude.
