How long have you been refining gold? : Have not as of yet, but will be refining my first patch of silver this weekend/
What are you looking for in our community? : Input and opinions on the safest and most fruitful ways to refine metals. Hopefully in time, swapping success stories with other members.
How did you discovered our Forum? : I watched the Nitric Acid tutorial video on Youtube.

As I said above, I'm looking to make my first batch of Nitric this weekend and then try my first batch of silver with a couple ounces of scrap sterling that I have.
I've done my research and feel pretty confident that I am ready to give this a shot, but I'm always open to input and ideas from the guys & gals that have been doing it for years.

Thank you!

I think I'll learn a lot here. I was reading around earlier and have already picked up some good tips. That doesn't seem to even scratch the surface of the useful info here!

Hello to everyone, I have a lot of computer boards and fingers i have accumulated over the years and want to recover the metals off them. Also have a lot of black sand cons i want to process, i want to know what other precious metals are in the con's besides gold.

Hi, nice to meet you all. Engineering background, and a little knowledge of chemistry, at least pure encyclopaedic knowledge which I recall from high school. Fellow hobbyist and an avid scepticist on matters like gold extraction, refining. After my first attempts I will try to post some findings, although I truly believe most of the work done here is more than enough lol!

Hi everybody, it looks to me like I have found one of those diamonds in the rough as far as websites go. I wander aimlessly online usually with an intention in mind but ultimately clicking on what what catches my fancy. Sometimes my interest lasts for a minute or two, other times I find something that will stay with me for the rest of my life. This subject seems to be of the latter. When I find something that really interests me and I know nothing about my mind sets to work on it and won't let it go, asking this and that, wondering about the what if's and the I wonder why's. If I make a hairbrained mistake, can't sleep at night, normally it is because I am thinking about what I am interested in and don't yet know about. That's why I had to give up crosswords, I would be laying in bed trying to sleep and my mind is working on the puzzle and won't let it go. So here I am wanting some relief from the what if's and the I wonder why's. When I become interested in something I normally fall in over my head and I don't come up for air until I have the basics down, hence the long list of hobbies, this one grabbed me because it has my interest and it has the potential of paying me for it, what a novel idea. I have spent a good deal of time these last few days gathering computer scrap and now I am trying to come up with a shopping list of lab supplies and chemicals I will need to find out what this is all about, the approach is a little backward but normal for me.The one thing I always do before actaully pouring anything is find out about the pitfalls of messing around with these chemicals. That behavior is the only reason I still have all my fingers and toes, eyesight etc.
name- JohnnyBeadman, Beadman, JBman, BM if you like humor
sex- male
age- 44
location- planet earth
trade- commercial overhead door installer
hobbies- interests-High voltage, RC cars, boats, helicopters, glass bead making, fishing, pyrotechnics, paper airplanes, computer games, model building, woodworking, mostly I like figuring things out, sometimes that is a blessing othertimes it's a curse.
how long- I have yet to begin
what do I want- a RELIABLE source of ACCURATE information coming from people who aren't afraid to talk about their failures as well as their successes, for every one thing I have figured out how to do right I have figured out how to do it wrong at least 10 different ways. It is through my failures that my fundimental understanding emerges, but in this case that won't happen if I am dead.
how I found- you tube- Looking for the answer to a question I have involving nitric acid and explosions. I'll have to get back to that. This looks like a fun way to learn chemistry without involving things like orange jumpsuits and bars and the like.

Welcome Beadman,

Since I'm the first to read your post I'll be the first to tell you that you will get out of this website what you put into it. If you read the posts, view Lasersteves videos and read Hoke, you will have a good basic understanding of the principles involved in refining. If you blow it off we will know it from the questions you ask and likely no-one will take your questions seriously.

First off find the PDF of Hokes book on refining, I believe there is a link on a few signature lines of members (palladium, for one, I think) This is an old text and it does not deal with e-scrap but it was written for the non chemist and it will take you step by step through the testing you will need to be good at the art of refining.

Put in the time, and if you are serious, this website will become your best resource.

Eighty bucks sounds way too high to me. Send me your address and I'll confirm that the Paypal shipping calculator isn't acting up on you. Typically I can fit all four DVD's into a single small flat rate box which should ship anywhere in the world for less than $20 USD.
