Profession : US Navy Reserve warrant officer; computer consultant
Hobbies : reading, movies, video games, watching YouTube videos on gold refining
Interests : all of the above, and many more (I’m something of a polymath)
How long have you been refining gold or have interest in precious metals? : No refining done to date, purely an interested hobbyist. Been watching YouTube videos on the subject for the past year or so.
What are you looking for in our community? : Unsure, really. I signed up for a premium membership as a way to support a community that I stumbled upon a year or so back via YouTube, and somewhat accidentally. I also have two young adult sons that might well be interested in something like this; I’m wondering if there might be a way for the three of us to pool our mutual interests to come up with a way to become more than… well, interested hobbyists. (grin)
How did you discover our Forum? : Google Search on another member who produces YouTube videos in their own right, then I clicked down the digital rabbit hole…

How long have you been refining gold or have interest in precious metals? : My interest is very much in its infancy and is probably more of a curiosity as yet.

How did you discover our Forum? : I had a HS chemistry teacher who covered the topic a bit and it has forever been in the back of my mind ever since. He also set up a very small scale demonstration extracting very high purity silver using scrap and an electrode. I was recently talking with my mother in law and she has started going to estate sales looking for very random things. I'd suggested that I might be able to compile some info regarding good pricing for gold and silver scrap, plated jewelry, and various 10,14, 18k prices and work together to focus her hunting and make sure to get good deals. I was thinking I'd like to set up a small hobby level project to recover and extract the high purity gold and silver. This is how i found the forum as the first thing I wanted to investigate was an abundance of safety and proper handling of any corrosive chemicals and fumes involved in the process.

In advance: Thank you for your help! I have a whole lot of gold filled material that I am considering sending off to Umicore to have refined. I’m here to ask if this is a reasonable way to cash out or perhaps find someone local to Victoria or Vancouver BC, Canada who knows how to refine this material. Thank you!!

Welcome to the forum. Please be aware that discussions of religion are against our Rules. We've lost valued members when religious discussions went sideways. We prefer to stay on the topic of recovering and refining precious metals.

Does anyone know what this might be I believe it's AU just my buddy borrowed my kiln and spilt his pour in the kiln and messed up all my ceramic bricks. But anyhow this is the material I picked out of the ceramic bricks in my kiln anyone have a clue and how would I go about finding its true identity lol seriously though thanks for the help

Hi, to everyone.
Welcome
Here are some rules and links of what to learn.

We ask our new members to do 3 things.
1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=19798
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/forums/safety.47/
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/threads/dealing-with-waste.10539/

Never have refined Gold or any other metal.
To learn how to refine, process and search for precious metals
I discovered this site by reading comments on a YT channel (Sreetips) and have been lurking for a bit.

Currently working in NW Romania for the next two months. Have Sundays off and want to find gold from the Aries river here. Anyone know if I'd get in trouble for gold panning?
