Hello everyone! I've been looking for a hobby and I remembered that I had collected quite a bit of CPU parts that are gold plated, so I started looking at how I could remove that gold and sell it...then I found the "Easy" YouTube videos and thought that was crazy. So I wanted to research a bit more and I found y'all. Reading some posts I see that not only is this not cost-effective but it's also dangerous as the process/waste can be quite a hazard...but I also kinda got excited about doing it just for fun. Anyways, I'm going to keep reading and figure out what to do with all the CPU parts and maybe stumble into a post that gets me excited to try something new. See ya around.

How long have you been refining gold or have interest in precious metals? : I've been interested in precious metals for a few years from an investment standpoint I like commodities and intrinsic value. I used to do HVAC work and was always scrapping copper but after changing jobs i no longer have easy access. So i started looking for other ways to get beer money and got into Escrap I now have deals with some local thrift stores to collect electronics they can't sell and have built up quite the stock pile of boards. There's no buyers locally to me and I hate paying shipping costs so I've decided to get into refining myself.
What are you looking for in our community? : education, tips and, tricks between the forum posts here and the recommended books I ordered I hope to learn enough to start processing my Escrap

Welcome to an additive hobby, and even a way into more than a hobby if one works at it enough.

Welcome to the forum. Before you get too far decide what type of gold you want to refine. It comes in many flavors, jewelry scrap, e-waste scrap, ore, and a few more obscure types. Most have been discussed here and you can get what you need to get started here if you do the work and study the methods.

This may help get you started;

Sadly ductless hoods are non existent for chemical work.
You will need scrubbing the fumes.
